I started with the "Young Frankenstein" figure set from Sideshow Toys. Once again, they have done a really nice job with this product.
My first step in creating this diorama was to construct the operating table. I used sheet styrene for the table, legs, and supports. The restraint bands are brass strip, bent into shape, with jump rings which I cut in half and glued on for the hasp loops. I used wood sheet for the base and attached rings and miniature chain for the lifting apparatus.
The lab equipment was also built from scratch using cardboard, plastic tubing, and old jewelry parts. I also added a couple of pieces that had come with other Sideshow figures.
The background walls are my old standby--cardboard box covered with a brick design.
To take the pictures, I attached bent coat hangers to the rear of the background and suspended the chains from them. I added the lightning effects in my computer graphics program by using elements from pictures of actual lightning.
Since the movie was done in black-and-white, I chose to show the pictures as such, but I have include some color "behind the scenes" photos of the set so you can see what it looks like.
