THE INSPIRATION
My father served in the US Army during World War II.  Before going overseas, he was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA, with the 115th Cavalry, Headquarters Troop.  I have an album of pictures showing him and his friends during his time there.  In the front of that album, he noted that on September 22, 1942, he was selected to be a special motorcycle escort for President Roosevelt during his visit to Fort Lewis.  That same day, he got to see Bob Hope do his radio program from there.
I decided to take one of those photos showing my father on the motorcycle he rode during that time, and try to recreate it, as best I could, in one-sixth scale.  These are the results.
I have included the original photo for reference, along with some others, to show different viewpoints and details.

THE FIGURE
The figure is "Vassily", made by Dragon Toys.  The clothes and accessories are mostly Dragon items.  I chose whatever I could find that was most historically accurate and tried to come as close as I could to what was shown in the pictures.

THE MOTORCYCLE
I was fortunate to find that Hasbro made a 1942 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was nearly identical to what my father rode.  It required some minor modifications, such as reversing the headlight and horn locations, making a new seat, redoing the saddlebags, and scratch-building the windshield/protector.

My father completed his service and left the Army with the rank of Second Lieutenant.  Along with other medals, he was awarded a Bronze Star.  He died in 1981.
