The "Castle Door Base" was my first attempt at a resin kit.

This kit was made by Cellar Cast and I purchased it from Monsters In Motion.

The kit is a fairly easy project, and good for a first-timer.

The pieces are washed with soap and water to remove any residue, and allowed to dry.  Then they are assembled with cyanoacrylate cement (generically referred to as "Super Glue").  I left the door knocker off, so it could be added later.  Once the glue has dried, the assembled base is sprayed with several light coats of automotive primer.  When those have dried, you can begin painting.

I used water-based acrylic paints on this project.  I put down the base color first and let it dry.  Then I added any secondary or accent colors.  I obtained a weathered look by putting on a coat of diluted black paint and wiping off most of it with a wet cloth, leaving the black in the cracks and recesses.  When that dried, I went over the surface lightly with fine sandpaper to bring out some of the highlights.

I added one detail that doesn't come with the kit: flames for the candles.  I made the flames from cotton make-up swabs that already had the shape I wanted, and painted them with a mixture of yellow and red to represent flame.

I use this base to display my Dracula figure.
